SUMMARY : While photographing ruins in the English countryside, American photographer Jill Trevers enters an open vault where she finds a microphone. Hearing about Robert Miles, a man who lives as a recluse and records the dead in order to communicate with them, she meets him and discovers the strange relationship between him and his black cat, a cat that the villagers do not suspect is the cause of many of the "accidental" deaths that have occurred recently. Inspector Gorley of Scotland Yard is soon dispatched to the scene to investigate.

ABOUT THE FILM : Shot between A Clockwork Orange and The Beyond, in three villages in the southeast of England, The Black Cat confirms Lucio Fulci's talent in the field of horror. A loose adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's short story, like Edgar G. Ulmer's The Black Cat in 1934 (with Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi) and Roger Corman's Empire of Terror (1962), this version by the Italian master benefits from a quality cast, including Patrick Magee (A Clockwork Orange), Mimsy Farmer (A Clockwork Orange) and David Warbeck (The Victims of Dracula).
