SUMMARY : Hirosuke Hitomi, a medical student suffering from amnesia, is interned in a psychiatric hospital. Having managed to escape, he is falsely accused of the murder of a young woman. During his escape, he discovers a photograph of a recently deceased man, Genzaburô Komoda, who is his exact double. Hirosuke assumes his identity and infiltrates the deceased's family. While investigating his origins, the young man finds clues that lead him to an island ruled by a mad and dangerous scientist, Jogoro, who transforms men into monstrous creatures and women into slaves.

ABOUT THE FILM : Terrifying Doctor Hijikata is one of the many sultry works of Japanese filmmaker Teruo Ishii , a prolific director, notably for TOEI, to whom we owe, among others, Criminal Women, Sadistic Orgies of the Edo Era and Torture Hell. Loosely based on a novel by Edogawa Ranpo, Terrifying Doctor Hijikata, made in 1969, is affiliated with the "ero guro" (erotic/gore) genre, and is considered a precursor to the "pinky violent" style, which would take off in Japan in the 1970s. With the exception of a single screening of this film at the L'Étrange Festival de Paris in 2004, Terrifying Doctor Hijikata had never been distributed in France until now. This has now been done with this high-definition Blu-ray edition.
