SUMMARY : Elena Bardi, a young Italian schoolteacher, is transferred to a small town in Sicily. She is harassed by a man on the bus to her destination, and again the next day on a busy street in the village. The following morning, the man is found dead in a public square, shot five times with a revolver, a flower stuck in his mouth. The fearful and silent locals believe Elena is protected by the mafia, and are torn between fear and respect for her. Only two people seem willing to help her: a teacher, Michele Belcore, and the richest and most influential man in the village, Antonio Bellocampo. But can she really trust them?

ABOUT THE FILM : Both a drama and a thriller, The Masters (Gente di rispetto) was filmed in 1975 by Luigi Zampa. The writer and director was also a political expert, who devoted part of his work to two particularly sensitive subjects in his country: fascism and the mafia. The Masters has never been shown in French cinemas, and had not previously been released in physical format. Here is finally the opportunity to discover this masterful work, carried by a trio of actors at the height of their powers: Jennifer O'Neill (Walled Up Alive), Franco Nero (A Black Day for a Ram) and James Mason (North by Northwest).
