ABOUT THE FILM :
1976: In Warsaw, Agnieszka is a young filmmaker who wants to make a documentary about a former Stalinist worker figure whose whereabouts have disappeared. During her research, she uncovers a series of embarrassing truths and decides to conduct an unofficial investigation into the life of Mateusz Birkut, a young, acclaimed Stakhanovite who was later a fallen glory of the regime, and who may have been assassinated.
A long-standing project for its director Andrzej Wajda, MAN OF MARBLE is one of the great classics of Polish cinema, an epic work with an intact modernity, a scalpel-like x-ray of a society in the midst of an identity crisis. Iconoclastic and innovative in its form, carried by a troupe of driven actors and first-rate technicians, it is a piece of history written in the present, whose existential questions are constantly counterbalanced with vivacity, humor, and impertinence. Winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1978 Cannes Film Festival.
Completely unavailable in France for over 30 years, the film is presented on Blu-Ray in its latest 2K restoration.
